Nestled just north of the state border from New Canaan, CT, is South Salem, NY where the hustle and bustle of country living takes place in and around the Oakridge Common. Peppered with just about any business a 21st century neighborhood could dream of—ranging from a pharmacy, fitness center, and gas station to a wine store, gourmet grocery, and several eateries, South Salem has become a sought-after destination not just for families but also for downsizing empty nesters.
Developer Phil Pine is currently building the second phase of Laurel Ridge, a 46-unit townhome community, to serve the needs of these home seekers. “Laurel Ridge is appealing to young families who are drawn to the recreational amenities, terrific local schools, and safe neighborhood (Lewisboro was recently named #1 safest and most livable town in America). In fact, we’ve had three new babies born in the townhouses just this year,” says Pine. But, downsizers are increasingly looking at Laurel Ridge, too, as an upscale yet affordable way of staying in the area after selling a larger family home.
Both The Hillside Collection (Phase I) and The Ridge Collection (Phase II) at Laurel Ridge are tucked beside a woodland grove, a short walk from the community swimming pools, sun deck, and sports courts. The homes range in size from 2,100 to 3,100 square feet and boast top-of-the-line finishes and brand name amenities. Best of all, from the solid foundation to the engineered-wood structural components, the quality of construction is top-notch.
Retirees Larry and Terry bought a Ridge Collection townhouse in July 2015 and were thrilled to be able to customize their new home during the construction process. They had initially downsized to a senior community in Connecticut but found it limiting, so they upsized a bit when they moved into their Laurel Ridge townhouse in December 2016. “We looked everywhere when we decided to move,” says Terry, who is happy to be only ten minutes from her family in Wilton, CT. “When we found Laurel Ridge, we liked everything about it. We loved the layout, especially the master bedroom on the first floor.” They also were impressed by the quality. “I worked in construction for 26 years, and I can tell you this is extremely well-built,” she continues.
Jonathan and Alexandra couldn’t agree more about the quality of construction. As new parents, they appreciate how quiet their new home is. Having moved from Tarrytown, NY to their Hillside Collection end unit in May 2016, they chose it for two important reasons: quality and convenience. “We knew we wanted new construction—with older condo communities, the common charges can be really high to cover the cost of aging buildings. The common charges here are extremely reasonable,” says Alexandra. “Also, my husband needed easy access to the train, and we like the fact that we are only ten minutes from Norwalk and New Canaan.”
While the Hillside Collection is sold-out, construction is still underway in the Ridge Collection. The model unit is luxuriously outfitted and move-in ready, but there are several three-bedroom units that can still be tailor-made to owners’ specifications. Prices start at $625,000. Laurel Ridge’s third and final phase is the Lakeside Collection, scheduled for completion in 2018.
